Empowering Namibia: Transforming Lives
Women’s Solidarity was set up in 1989. It was the first non-governmental organization set up in Namibia to tackle violence against women and children. In those days rape was a taboo subject and domestic violence was not discussed publicly. Women’s Solidarity Namibia discussed these topics in the media and instigated new laws protecting women. Now tens of organizations in the country deal either solely or partly with these issues.

With minimal resources, the Womens Solidarity,
Namibia team work tirelessly and passionately running workshops on women's rights, violence, community and youth empowerment. They also lobby and advise the government and frequently speak in the media and at conferences in Namibia and abroad on social issues.

Womens Solidarity Namibia gave life to The Dolam Children's Home, an orphanage for children born of rape, with HIV, or from violent homes. Over 250 children have been offered a loving home here. We are now actively fund raising to set up a Community Library, Study Centre and Podcast Studio in the grounds of the Children's Home for the local Township Children.
Recognising that underlying many of the issues facing Namibians is a scarcity of water and food, Women's Solidarity Namibia piloted an Eco Village project bringing community cohesion and food resiliency to a remote community. Hit by drought, our flagship project is to use this site as a pilot project to bring long term water and food resiliency to rural communities throughout Namibia.

WSN have secured the support of Zach Weiss at WATER STORIES. Zach is an Internationally acclaimed Water Cycle Restoration Expert and he will oversea and train our local Water team to put in place a holistic pilot plan to enable rural communities throughout Namibia to be water and food and food resilient. The pilot will be on a 3000 hectare site north of Windhoek. Zach is on standby to come to Namibia in Mid March to kickstart the project as soon as we secure $15,950.
Water and Food security are fundamental to the survival of our people as weather patterns become more extreme. This project will enable rural communities throughout Namibia to be water and food resilient through implementing Water Cycle Restoration and Community Gardening projects. The pilot Water Cycle Restoration project will be at the site of our Community Gardens in Okandjira which was hit by drought. This project, refilling the acquifers with rainwater, will enable the gardens to thirve for generations to come.
